The scenic West Branch Reservoir / Lake, located on the west branch of the Mahoning River in northeastern Ohio, in Portage county, presents 2,350 acres of recreational waters framed by a 40 mile shoreline with lots of forks and coves. The lake provides prosperous fishing, fun-filled boating and swimming waters with a sand beach.

The West Branch Lake State Park is open for year-round fun. The lake attracts lovers of boating, fishing, swimming and water skiing while the park offers camping, hiking, hunting, biking and horseback riding. An Equestrian camp offers nine non-electric sites with general amenities needed for housing a horse. These sites are available by reservation only.

Ice boating, ice fishing, snow mobiling and cross-country skiing are popular in the winter.

The Department of Natural Resources Division of Wildlife monitors fish populations.

The most sought after fish in West Branch Lake are tiger musky, northern pike, striped bass, largemouth and smallmouth bass and walleye. Yellow perch, white and black crappie, bluegill, bullhead, and channel catfish are also available for the catching.

Mark Chuifo of Ravenna caught a 41.25" Striped Bass in the West Branch Reservoir that weighed in at 37.1 pounds.

There are no horsepower limits on West Branch Lake, which is particularly inviting for boating and water sports' enthusiasts. Six boat ramps provide access to the lake. Boat rentals and supplies are available at the marina.

A no wake zone is enforced within 300 feet of the shore and the upper end of the lake has speed limits.
