Mosquito Lake

Mosquito lake is a 7,850 acre Reservoir managed by the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers. The main purpose of the creation of Mosquito Lake (also known as Mosquito Creek Lake), was to maintain flood control, reduce pollution and supply water for the city of Warren. It is the second largest inland lake in Ohio with Grand Lake St. Marys being the largest. Located in northeastern Ohio in the city of Cortland, Mosquito Lake has developed into one of the top ten most popular sites for outdoor recreation in the area.

The Mosquito State Park features a butterfly garden, amphitheater and free summer concerts are sponsored by the Mosquito Lake Marina. There are over 500 camp sites including a five (5) acre off-leash dog park surrounded by a split wood and mesh fence with lots of shade. There is a special swim area just for dogs, too.

Fishing

Renowned for its excellent walleye fishing, anglers will also find crappie, bass, northern pike and catfish plentiful in Mosquito's waters.

Walleye are stocked annually by the Division of Wildlife and are often caught from the lake with a range of sizes between 17 to 20 inches. Crappie and Bass are commonly caught while fishing the shallow depths of the shoreline. Mosquito Lake houses channel and flathead catfish that grow to very large sizes. The lake is also home to bluegill, perch, northern pike, and carp.

Fishing through the ice during winter's freeze is very popular with fishing enthusiasts. Mosquito Creek's icy waters have yielded many fine catches of walleye and panfish.

A wheelchair accessible fishing dock is located in the Lakeside Picnic Area.
