Lake Bruin

Lake Bruin is an oxbow lake formed from the Mississippi River in Tensas Parish, Louisiana. Unlike other lakes in this state, Lake Bruin has clear water that is perfect for swimming, boating, fishing, and other water recreation. The state owns part of the lake, which contains the Lake Bruin State Park. Much of the land around the lake is owned privately and is developed with vacation homes and permanent residences.

Fishing

Lake Bruin is an oxbow lake, so anglers can enjoy just about every depth imaginable for fishing. This lake ranges between shoreline depths of five feet at both ends of the lake, and 50 percent of the lake is 23 feet or more in depth. Some of the best fishing for largemouth bass is in April, May, June, September and October. Look around piers and mats in spring for crappie, and bluegill are best from shallower waters at both ends of the lake.

Many of the residences around the lake own private docks, piers, and boathouses. A public boat launch is located at Lake Bruin State Park, along with three fishing piers. Most facilities at that park are wheelchair accessible. Other boat ramps are available at Shilo and at Cypress Landing. This lake, which is clear with depths of 23 feet or greater over more than 50 percent of the lake area, provides a great resource for water skiing and pleasure boating.

Lodging
