Fishtrap Lake

Fishtrap Lake is a 1,131-acre reservoir in Pike County, Kentucky, that was dedicated by President Lyndon B. Johnson in 1968. The United States Army Corps of Engineers created the lake in 1962 by impounding the Levisa Fork of the Big Sandy River at Fishtrap Dam to help control flooding along the Ohio and Big Sandy Rivers. Nestled among mountains and dense forests, Fishtrap Lake area appeals to anyone who loves boating, fishing or hiking. The lake is a primary destination of the surrounding Fishtrap Lake State Park.

Fishing

Fishtrap Lake State Park is one of the newest additions to the Kentucky State Parks' system. This site, which contains shelters, picnic areas with playgrounds and camping, is well-known as a haven for deer, raccoons and even the occasional grouse. Anglers will be more attracted to the lake's largemouth and smallmouth bass, bluegill, white crappie, black crappie and channel catfish.
