Lake Sinclair

Lake Sinclair is a reservoir located on the Oconee River in central Georgia near Milledgeville. The waters of Lake Oconee feed into Lake Sinclair. Below Sinclair Dam, the water flows freely in the Oconee River until its confluence with the Ocmulgee River to form the Altamaha River near Lumber City, Georgia.

Containing over 15,000 surface acres of water and 400 miles of shoreline, Lake Sinclair offers anglers coves and inlets as well as long expanses of open water. The lake also is located near several parks such as a portion of the Oconee National Forest. Milledgeville, located on the lake's southern shores, offers arts, golfing, shopping, and tourist activities.

Fishing

Lake Sinclair is the venue for a number of local and national fishing tournaments. One popular fishing area is located below the dam near Milledgeville. Within the lake, anglers can find black and white crappie, bluegill, hybrid striped and largemouth bass, redbreast and redear sunfish, striped and white bass, and yellow perch. Angling for catfish is a popular sport on this lake, with a wide variety of species to offer.

Boating

Georgia Power offers two public boat ramps at Lake Sinclair, and marinas offer even more access. Marinas also host fishing tournaments as well as offer full-service amenities and boat ramps. The Lake Sinclair Recreation Area is another location where boaters and gain access to the water on the northeast shores, while Lake Sinclair-Rocky Creek Park offers day access near Milledgeville.



    
Lodging

Milledgeville is the closest town to Lake Sinclair, and it's located on the south side at Sinclair Dam. Visitors can find B&Bs, hotels, and resorts here as well as at Eatonton, which is located at the northwest end of the lake. Campgrounds abound here, including places where people can hook up their RVs. Parks, such as the Little River Park, provide camping as well.

Communities

Lake Sinclair is located in Baldwin, Putnam, and Hancock Counties, about 102 miles east of Atlanta and 110 hours west of Augusta. Towns in the area include Milledgeville, Eatonton, Sparta, and Monticello. These communities have banded together for marketing efforts, providing tourists with a wide variety of options for activities that range from the arts to golfing.
